One of the main considerations in buying a tent is its portability. Backpacking tents are tents that can be easily carried in backpacks. In outdoor activities such as hiking or camping, weight should be kept at its minimum without compromising safety and comfort. The 4 main categories in backpacking tents include:

~Minimalist – weight is the main consideration so comfort, durability and convenience sometimes suffer
~Ultralight – would want to keep weight at minimum but not as much as a minimalist would, willing to give up some comfort
~Lightweight – considerations for light weight, comfort and convenience are
~Deluxe – maximalist; prioritizes comfort and convenience

It will also help to know that good backpacking tents have to be right for the weather, place, weight, length of stay and number of people.
