The first tents were initially used by nomads. They were made for temporary dwelling and usually had wooden supports and hide covering. They served their purpose well enough but later these tents developed into more modern designs with special features that contributed to better comfort. They needed to be light and easy to pack so that they could be carried by one person in a backpack. They also became more specialized with tents meant for sub-arctic conditions and others built for hot weather camping.

The dome tent remains one of the most popular types of tent today. The dome structure provides stability against the wind and naturally sloughs rainwater or snow off. It also provides headroom avoiding slouching and bending inside. Dome tents are available from Kelty tent. They make the amateur camper as well as experienced outdoor enthusiast enjoy time out in the open.
