Expedition tent

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Serious campers need not worry about setting up shelter on a difficult terrain. The Expedition tent is made for extreme off-road capabilities. Their walls are made to withstand extreme conditions of sun and wind. These are designed and constructed to excel in the toughest conditions. On top of that they guarantee water tight construction.

What is amazing is that expedition tents are designed for ease of use. The double-wall tent can be pitched in one operation. These tents are meant to keep two and up to six people comfortable. Would you believe they even have elastic edge storage pockets sewn it? Isn’t it great to have people seriously thinking about your camping needs?

camping hammocks

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

In our small country home, my father put up a hammock in between two trees. We all took turns lying in it. We also fought over who would get to lie in it especially after a long day. I have just been invited to go on a weeklong camping vacation. I was told that I could bring along a camping hammock in addition to my sleeping bag and my tent. I guess we would spend a lot of time just relaxing and taking in the outdoors.

I went over to look at camping hammocks the other day. They obviously are different from the standard backyard hammock. They are mostly made of nylon material. They are lightweight and some even come with a mosquito net. They also weigh so much lighter but are sturdy enough to carry the weight of someone who could stand to lose a few pounds.

folding knife

Catch an attacker unaware. Hide a folding knife in your person and use it when push comes to shove. A woman who can whip out this kind of weapon with confidence may be able to scare off an attacker if she shows she is willing to fight for her life.

Criminals are actually cowards who are looking for the easiest ways to commit a crime. When they sense that the potential victim will make things hard for them, the tendency is to leave her alone. These bad elements usually prefer victims that don’t fight back instead of those who are not afraid to. So train yourself to be able to wield effectively whatever self defense weapon you choose to carry and be able to protect yourself at all times.

camping hammock

One of the unenviable parts of camping is not the rough trip to the place. It is the setting up of the camping tent. First you have to bring a bulky piece, and then you have to set it up. You’d rather just go directly to stalking game or pestering ducks. You don’t even want to think about pulling it down for the trip home.

Fret no more. A camping hammock is your solution. It is light and easy to carry. No complicated knots required. You just have to tie it to a tree trunk and your job is done. You can each bring individual hammocks or share a double size one with your camping buddy. Sleep tight without worrying about crawling reptiles.

camping grills

Building a campfire is a big responsibility. Campfires that are left carelessly burning have caused numerous forest fires, burning homes in the vicinity. Authorities never get tired of reminding campers to practice great care when making a campfire.

~A minimum clearance of four meters around and above the fire of all flammable material.
~It must be attended at all times, with water or an extinguishing agent on hand.
~The fire must be completely extinguished before leaving the area.
~If only to avoid open fires, it is better to use camping grills on the site.

There are portable grills that are easy to use. They assemble quickly. Just screw a propane cylinder and you are ready to grill.

camping cot

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

One of the most enjoyable moments in any camping trip is spending the night inside the tent with your loved ones and friends. Unfortunately, some people have issues sleeping on the ground despite earth mats and sleeping bags. If you are one such person, make use of a camping cot instead. It’s a versatile and compact folding bed that allows you to sleep in the outdoors while slightly elevated from the ground.

During World War II, the army issued foldable cots to soldiers stationed in cold weathers. But those types are made of canvas and are very heavy and bulky. Camping cots of today are much lighter and weigh an average of 8.5 pounds. The poles are also easy to carry as they are made of sturdy aluminum alloy which are very lightweight too.

Dome tents

Camping adventures are extremely fun but they require a lot of preparation too. Choosing the right tent comes foremost in the checklist. These days, tents come in so many styles that it has become so difficult to distinguish what is most appropriate for your needs. They differ in fabric, size, and so on. Of course, they differ in cost as well.

When it comes to tent construction, however, there are four major types to choose from. Geodesic tents are the strongest and are used as expedition tents. Dome tents are generally lightweight because they use only two poles and thus best as backpacking tents. Tunnel tents are often preferred over dome tents because they have large usable space and height. Finally, large family tents are often used as base camp tents for longer trips and more people.

camping sleeping bags

Monday, May 11th, 2009

There are campers who like to camp only during the warm summer months. More adventurous ones prefer braving the cold nights of winter. And then there are those in the middle who like keeping their camping options open all year round. It goes without saying that one of the most essential items needed for these trips are camping sleeping bags.

Choose one that fits the range of activities you enjoy doing. For example, zero degree sleeping bags are designed to withstand extremely cold temperatures and places with very high elevation. Anything less may lead to risks of hypothermia, frostbite and other cold-weather injuries. On the other hand, 4 season sleeping bags are ideal for people who enjoy camping all year round.

Kelty tents

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I never plan an outdoor activity without a complete set of gears and tools. Whenever my friends and I go hiking, we make sure that we are outfitted for it. We trust only one brand when it comes to tents. Kelty tents have proven its worth to us and we’ve been loyal to it ever since. It has protected us from almost all weather conditions. These tents have strong poles and great materials that do not break easily.

These tents offer the most compartment space with its lightweight feature. These tents also have removable sleeping compartments which makes it easier to stay indoors during extreme weather conditions. If ever my old tent goes down, due to normal wear and tear, I’m sure to get another tent of the same brand.
