Backpacking tents

Monday, March 8th, 2010

One of the important things to master when backpacking is how to keep weight down. This ensures that the backpacker is comfortable during the hike. But it is also important to be properly provided in terms of shelter. Backpacking tents should provide adequate shelter from the cold but should also be well ventilated. It should be able to withstand all weather conditions including wind, rain and snow. Backpacking tents are available in the market that will meet all these requirements and still remain lightweight.

Experts suggest that one way to keep your load light is to choose the food that you bring along. Think of high calorie foods that weigh less. Mixed nuts, for example, have as many calories per pound as bread. Surely, you will be able to come up with a food balance that will consider weight versus calories and still be nutritious. You should also avoid canned goods and choose vacuum packed foods instead.

Going camping with the family is always fun. It is great bonding time for the family. It will require more extensive planning, though, especially in terms of accommodation. A camping family will need a cabin tent, portable shelters that are designed for use by typically four or more people. Not only are they bigger, they are also designed differently.

Monday, January 18th, 2010

There are many different brands of quality sleeping bags. Coleman sleeping bags is one of them. Children may have been introduced to it while joining summer camps. They have firsthand experience in the kind of warmth that Coleman sleeping bags provide. Coleman may have made innovative changes in their product but one thing has never changed. Their superior quality has remained the same.

Children have also learned certain tips in the use of sleeping bags which they continue to benefit from even as they have grown into adulthood.

~They keep some clothes inside the bag. Not only does it add to the insulation; they are also warmed up when they put them on in the morning.
~Graphite from a No.2 pencil helps to smooth out stuck zippers.
~Unrolling the sleeping bag at least an hour before bedtime allows enough time for the insulation to expand and perform better.
~Using sleeping bag liners add to the insulation while keeping the bag clean.

screen houses

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Feel the cool breeze and relax even if the sun is up and about outside. Put up a screen house in a corner of your garden and turn it into your very own backyard niche. It will allow you to fully enjoy the comforts of summer living. These screen houses provide instant protection against bugs and insects while letting the wind move around you freely.

Screen houses come in a variety of sizes, shapes and designs. There are ones big enough to accommodate a big table and chairs where you can have an afternoon cookout with the family. You can also bring in light mattresses inside for an instant bug-free tent where the kids would have fun sleeping in during starry nights.

One of the best things to do to relieve stress is to go out on a picnic with family and/ or friends. Going on a picnic is a great way to bond with your loved ones. Nothing beats having a barbecue. The only downside to having a barbeque party is the ants and flies that you will attract. To solve this problem use a Eureka screen house.

A Eureka screen house is a great tool to have in outdoor activities. It’s big enough to house a picnic table and anything you can put on top of it. It’s also big enough for people to stand upright without their heads hitting the tent’s ceiling. It is also very easy to set up. If you go on picnics often, you should consider getting one.

2 person tent

Camping is a very satisfying hobby. Camping ever so often will recharge your batteries and get you ready for the buzz of life. When buying camping gear, go for the known brands. It’s not wise to buy inferior brands. The last thing you want is to have a malfunction in your camping gear. If you plan to buy a tent, I suggest you get a 2 person tent.

A 2 person tent is just right. If you are camping alone, a 2 person tent will make your sleeping quarters more comfortable. If you’re a party of 3 or more, another person should carry another tent. A 3-4 person tent is too heavy for one person to log around. Tents nowadays are very light. Carrying it up a mountain for 3-5 hours will make the lightest tents seem like boulders.

car tents

The idea of sleeping out in nature appeals to most people. Sleeping under the stars and telling stories by a fire is fun. What’s not fun is sleeping and be woken up by crawling bugs or snakes. To solve this problem car tents are made. In essence, you sleep above ground.

Car tents have lots of advantages. The best one is sleeping above ground. No crawling insects. If you have an open bed pickup, you can even put an inflatable mattress to maximize sleeping comfort. Two, you don’t have to log around camping gear to the camping site because your campsite is your car. Lastly, you and your car will be safe. Finding your car stolen or vandalized after a camping trip is traumatic.

2 person tent

Monday, October 5th, 2009

More and more people are going camping. It’s fun plus it’s a great way to bond with family and friends. Just make sure you have the proper tent. Carry a cheap tent and you might sleep on open ground. Carry a big and heavy tent and hauling it up a mountain is also not fun. I myself prefer to carry a 2 person tent.

There are different sizes of tent ranging from solo, 2 person tent, 4, 6, 8 person and dome. I don’t like the solo because I like more space. A 2 person tent can accommodate two people or one person who likes more space, like me. If there’s more people in your camping trip, let them bring their own tent. I made a mistake in my first camping trip. I took a 6 person tent up a mountain. Since I was a big guy, I figure I can haul a 20-25 pound tent up a mountain. That mountain took about 3-4 hours to conquer. 25 pounds felt like a ton after an hour walking uphill.

dome tents

One of the top characteristics of a good tent is its ability to stand extreme weathers. No wonder why dome tents are preferred by many because its shape is best in windy conditions. They consist of geometric flexible poles that form their shape. These poles also open up the tents’ interior space. They are well known to be best for recreational camping.

There are two types of dome tents:

1.) Half-dome tents - can accommodate 2 people; consist of two or more hoops joined at the center and facing different directions
2.) Tunnel-dome tents - very spacious and good for family camping; combination of tunnel and dome styles; tunnel serves as a porch or sleeping area
