pen knife

My uncle is into hand held gadgets. Besides getting the latest phones on the market, he also has a voice activated directory at his disposal. One time he got me a pen that had tear gas on it. He also gave me a pen knife. Whenever I see him, I also noticed that he always has three pens attached to his shirt pocket; a real pen, a tear gas pen, and a pen knife.

All three pens look alike and are functional pens—they all write. What separates the other two from the real pen is the weight. They are heavier (but not much) and bulkier (not much also) than the real deal. My uncle says that it’s nice to carry the pens around. It gives him security — though he hopes that he don’t get to use it.

Gerber pocket knives

When I was in the second grade, I joined the boy scouts. There I met my future best friend, Davie. We liked the same things: camping, video games and knives. He is the one who introduced me to Gerber pocket knives. We would go to the mall on weekends and just go to the camping goods section and look at the different knives by Gerber.

Gerber knives have been in existence since the late 30’s. It had a reputation of making quality knives with legendary blades. The Gerber pocket knives carry the same quality blades as its more famous big brother, the tactical knife. Even now as an adult I have a Gerber pocket knife. I use it for everything from cutting strings to opening hard to open plastic enclosed items.

SOG knives

My cousin is a member of the navy seals. For my birthday last year, he gave me a SOG knife. He said SOG knives are the best in the world. It has unparallel sharpness and balance. When we were growing up as kids, his dad would show us how knife fighting as well as how to throw knives. My mom wasn’t too happy about this.

We would make a target out of half inch plywood and throw knives ten to fifteen feet away. Some knives would fly funny or the edge would chip but not the SOG knives. One time I hit the marble floor and the floor chipped but the knife stayed sharp. My cousin became really good at it. He can pull out a concealed knife, hurl it at you 15 feet away and hit you between your eyes. It was one of the reasons why he became a navy seal.

Catch an attacker unaware. Hide a folding knife in your person and use it when push comes to shove. A woman who can whip out this kind of weapon with confidence may be able to scare off an attacker if she shows she is willing to fight for her life.

Criminals are actually cowards who are looking for the easiest ways to commit a crime. When they sense that the potential victim will make things hard for them, the tendency is to leave her alone. These bad elements usually prefer victims that don’t fight back instead of those who are not afraid to. So train yourself to be able to wield effectively whatever self defense weapon you choose to carry and be able to protect yourself at all times.

Knives were usually kept in a sheath for two reasons. One is to protect the person from the sharp blades. The other is to protect the sharp edge of the knife from being deformed. The sheath was earlier hanged from the belt. It was symbolic of the warrior.

The knives in sheaths eventually took on a sleek look. The handles folded into the blade thereby protecting them from accidents. These were called folding knives. Modern day folding knives are popular collector’s items. You can find simple single blade knives or the sophisticated multi-blade Swiss knife. It is an important tool to bring along when camping.
