To the uninitiated, kayaking can be confused with canoeing. The difference lies in the sitting position of the paddler. In a kayak, the paddler faces forward with legs extended in front. In a canoe, the paddler faces forward in a sitting or kneeling position. Another difference is in the paddle used. A kayak paddler will be using a double bladed paddle while a canoe paddle is single bladed.

Both are great fitness activities. It involves strength training, flexibility and aerobic workouts. Repetitive paddling works your abs, arms, shoulders, back and chest. It also gives your legs a workout because paddling starts at the feet. There will be a lot of questions when you decide to buy your own kayak. Rigid kayaks are what most people are familiar with but there are also folding and inflatable kayaks. They offer terrific portability and ease of storage.

sea kayaks

The first time I went kayaking was in Hawaii. I was in Kona and my host took us kayaking. I did not want to at first because I had never gone kayaking before and I did not have the right clothes. At first, I was scared to try the sea kayaks thinking it might sink. Five minutes into kayaking, I was hooked! It was so easy and fun.

We went kayaking to where Captain Cook landed. It took us about 45mins of kayaking to reach the bay. On our way there, we encountered a pod of dolphins. One of my friends decided to swim instead of kayak. It was amazing to see a guy swimming as fast as the sea kayaks.

There are so many outdoor activities a husband and wife can learn together. One of them is kayaking. A kayak is a boat that is powered by a human. Kayaking makes use of a double-bladed paddle with the paddler facing forward.

Normally, kayaks are for one person. However, there are Tandem kayaks available for those who prefer to have company. A Tandem kayak is larger and more expensive. It is also difficult to maneuver especially is you are alone. This kind of kayak works best if you are in synchrony with your partner. This way you can paddle more efficiently. Having a partner also allows you to make rests every now and then as you and your partner may take turns paddling.
